What to bring to your first home register session

Clients often ask whether they should “gather everything” before we arrive. Yes—but gather does not mean spread secrets on the counter for the delivery driver to see.

Before we knock

• Clear a dining table or desk with space for two open folios.
• Collect all envelopes, capsules, and recovery cards into one room with a door you can close.
• Locate any existing notes—sticky pads, bank box slips, emails you printed.
• Invite every adult who knows part of the storage map; teenagers who rotate backups should join if comfortable.

Do not prepare

• Do not pre-label everything with new names the night before unless you enjoy redoing work—we will rename codes together.
• Do not buy a fireproof box the morning of the session without measuring where it will sit; we can advise during the visit.
• Do not photograph seed phrases to “help us prepare.” We never accept digital copies.

What we bring

Blank folios, dividers, pencil sets, correction tape, and sample index layouts from past sessions (identities removed). Coffee if your kitchen is already warm.

After we leave

Store the bound register where the index says it lives—usually beside the folio, not inside the same envelope as key material. Tape the duplicate index for your trusted relative within a week while memory is fresh.
